We are now working with our Swim 21 co-ordinator at the ASA to accredit ourselves to the new Swim 21
standards. The action points that the ASA has suggested are:
|
Swimmer
development |
- Investigate other methods of swimmer
assessment e.g. awards, attainment of published qualifying times, work
progress, etc
- Try to reduce the swimmers to coach
ratio per group
- Try to introduce equipment in line with
teaching aims/goals of each group
- Follow a structured awards scheme in
line with teaching programme
- Promote all disciplines of swimming if
practical
- Introduce land training to skill
development swimmers and above
|
|
Teacher/coach
education |
- Encourage individuals to upgrade their
ASA qualifications
- Try to assess disability awareness
training and child protection training
- Try to initiate coach meetings to
exchange good practice and coaching aims
- Set up an appraisal system for
teaching/coaching staff
- Try to encourage coaches to experience
competition above the level at which they presently attend
|
|
Club
administration |
- Investigate the idea of producing a club
handbook
- Appoint a disability liaison officer and
volunteer co-ordinator
- Establish a training programme for
volunteers and allocate a budget for this area
- Try to have the club represented on
local forums and county ASA committees
- Produce a code of conduct
|
|
Partnerships |
- Try to encourage links with disability
groups and National Coaching Foundation
|
