Results: GB Masters, 6-8 June

Of the 18 Wandsworth masters swimmers who competed, 13 brought home medals.  The two outstanding swimmers for the club were Guy Davis (44-49), who won gold in the 200m IM with a time of 2:27.70. Thirty-three years ago, at the age of 11, Davis was the UK age group champion in the 100m freestyle. Two years ago, he returned to the sport for a bit of fun and competition. Now 44, Davis has been training hard, and was very pleased with his results. Overall, Davis won six individual medals - a silver in the 50m backstroke, and bronze in the 200m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.

"I am aiming for consistent progress, so as long as everything keeps moving forward I am happy. The main thing was I took two seconds off my time from last year in the 100m freestyle, so it is all starting to come together."

The club's other outstanding performer was Eleanor Thomson, who won three individual medals. Thomson, 27, who played in South Africa's water polo team in last year's Commonwealth Games, won gold in the 50m backstroke, silver in the 200m individual medley, and bronze in the 400 IM.

A high school maths teacher, Thomson was very pleased with her results.  "Recently my training has been a little inconsistent, but for the two years leading up to the games I worked really hard."

Club coach Tony Pearce said the team had performed creditably. Competing in the 55-59 age group, Pearce won a silver in the 400 IM, and a bronze in the 200m butterfly and 100m butterfly. Many of the team are now working towards the European Championships in August.
