Results: Hants and South Coast, 29 March
Having travelled to Christchurch, Dorset, we came third overall with a very
small team. As an example, we were able to field none of our 1989 girls and we
even had swimmers drop out on the day. So many of our younger swimmers covered
in older age groups and did very well. The biggest age difference was with Sami
Ibrahim (93) swimming in the Mens 100m Breaststroke. Sami's excellent swim was
worth the effort; his time of 1min 50.84 secs puts him second in his age in the
Club rankings.
In the results below you will find so many PBs. We raced down the first 10
events and almost everybody swam a PB, even the relay teams where every member
swam one.
The Gala will probably also be noted for the number of DQs, 35 for the gala and
7 to WSC. We had all sorts of "silly" things that really should not have
happened. One handed turn in the 50m Fly, scratching at the start, two turn
problems on backstroke and some butterfly arm stroke technicalities. Coaches and
swimmers take note – we will have to do more work on these areas in practice.
The round was won by a high quality Haslemere team 257, Hamble Aquatics came
second with 197, WSC 173. The League being called "Minor" only restricts
swimmers who swam in last year's Nationals. The quality was about as high as the
Speedo League. Provided that we can get a good team out for the next round we
could do well.
