Pool lifeguards
At St Paul's School the Club provides lifeguard cover. Reproduced here,
therefore are the NOP and EAP for this pool.
ST PAUL’S NORMAL OPERATING PROCEDURE
1. St Paul’s Teaching Activities and Activities Involving Coletines or
Paulines
There must be a teacher and a Life Saver (qualified to RLSS Rescue Test
Certificate or above) on poolside at all times. Maximum load is 2 staff to 25
pupils.
2. External Organisations Using the Pool by Arrangement
External groups using the pool are to have a RLSS qualified Pool Life Guard on
the side of the pool and a teacher if children are present.
3. Staff and Other Authorised Users
Families and guests only swim when the member of staff is actually present and
he/she is limited to three guests. All staff using the pool must have read and
comply with the Normal Operating and Emergency Action Plan.
4 Old Paulines
Must have a current I.D. Card, written permission from the Bursar, and must have
read and understood both the Normal Operating and Emergency Action Plan
Procedures. Please note that you may not bring guests swimming.
5. General Rules for All Activities
- The Main Pool door must always be locked when the pool is not in use.
- No one is permitted to swim in the pool unless accompanied by another
competent swimmer
- All users are to comply with the rules displayed locally and from time to
time on the swimming pool notice board
ST PAUL'S SCHOOL EMERGENCY ACTION PLAN
IMMEDIATE ACTION
a) Check casualty for injury and spinal damage; if in doubt remain with
casualty and send for help. The casualty must be kept in a comfortable support
position.
b) Commence necessary First Aid, E.A.V or C.P.R.
c) Clear the pool (3 blasts on the whistle).
d) Phone Ambulance using the telephone on the poolside.
i) Ring (9) 999.
ii) Give the School’s number 020 8748 9162.
iii) Ask for an ambulance.
iv) Give the School's address, specify the ambulance must go to the Swimming
Pool.
v) Give the suspected injury/injuries/(number of casualties)
POST INCIDENT
a) Inform the Head of Department as soon as possible. For outside users and
users outside normal working hours inform the Porter’s Lodge on Ext 401 or 020
8748 9162.
b) Enter the incident in the book held in the Pool Office and give a copy to
the School Medical Room (or outside normal working hours, the Porters Lodge).
Give the following details:
i) Name of casualty.
ii) How accident happened
iii) Details of treatment given/type of injury.
iv) Names of witnesses and staff on duty
v) Comments, i.e. what can be done to prevent a similar occurrence
ALL THESE DETAILS MUST BE COMPLETED ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT.
