2010 Wandsworth Club Championships This year's Championships were held at the Ernest Bevin College in Tooting on the two weekends of 20/21 November and 27/28 November 2010. Our Championships are a level 4 licensed meet so all times swum are eligible for the Surrey County Championships in February and March next year. You can find the Surrey Qualifying times at this link so we would recommend each swimmer check how they did and then speak to your coach about next steps to gain qualifying times. We will be holding a licensed time trial on the 9th January 2011, probably in partnership with Leander, as a last chance opportunity for those not entering other licensed meets. Please check on the home page for details of this meet nearer the time. We use the same BAGCAT scoring system as used at the Surrey County Championships. Please click on this link for an explanation of the British Age Group CATegories. The Programme of Events and the Promoter's Conditions, which includes an explanation of the trophies awarded, can be found at the following links: The individual results can be found here. The final scores are set out below.
Each swim is awarded FINA points based on the time relative to the world record in that event. FINA update these points tables annually. The advantage of this points system is that it enables you to compare performances between events whatever the stroke, distance or gender of the events concerned. Consequently the higher the points score the better the swim. Unfortunately this is no longer adjusted for age so it is unlikely that any 8, 9 or 10 year olds will appear on this list, but it does nevertheless reflect an absolute measure of performance and is something to which each swimmer should aspire. An 11 year old swimming a National Qualifying time would be on this list. A swim that earns 500 points is a very good performance. A swim that earns 600 points is a fantastic performance. We had one swim over 600 in this year's Championships from Tim Robinson, aged 14, in the 800m Freestyle which earned him 649 points. Many congratulations to Tim for this fantastic effort. The leading girls swim was from Hannah Kern, also 14, in the 400m Freestyle which earned her 597 points. A fantastic performance from Hannah who was 2nd to Tim with this score. The best 13 year old was Katie Mackenzie who came 3rd in the list with a magnificent swim in the 200m Individual Medley which scored her 592 points. The best 16 year old was Paige Kern in the 200m Freestyle with a score of 586 and the best 15 year old was Sacha Sutcliffe in the 400m Freestyle with a score of 566 points. Some might notice that the top 20 swims were dominated by the girls. Come on boys, let's get the wheels back on the trolley!
